Healing La Causa

English

About the Project

Thousands of farm workers and supporters helped build the United Farm Workers and La Causa. United Farm Workers and its sister organizations have asked Working IDEAL, in partnership with the East Los Angeles Women’s Center, to provide options for you to anonymously or confidentially share your experiences of sexual abuse and/or other harm by César Chávez, if you wish to do so.

At this site, you can share what you want to share anonymously or get connected to a confidential counselor, and/or directly to UFW, and be treated with dignity and respect in the process.

Working IDEAL provides trusted advice and help to unions and other employers on preventing sexual assault and abuse in the workplace, with safety, fairness, and dignity for all. The East Los Angeles Women’s Center runs a 24-hour crisis line, and supports sexual assault and other survivors with counseling and other services in Spanish and English.

If you want to get help and resources without talking to someone first, click the Resources button below. This list of resources can help you find options for support near you.

If you want to speak to a counselor or sexual assault advocate, contact the East Los Angeles Women’s Center.

At the East Los Angeles Women’s Center, you will be able to have a private conversation with someone who has experience talking to and working with people who have experienced sexual harassment, abuse, and similar kinds of harm. You can share your story, and if you wish, share what you may need for safety and healing and get help, including tailored referrals. East Los Angeles Women’s Center will not share your name, contact information, your story, or any other information with the Working IDEAL team or UFW, unless you want it shared and give your written permission.

If you want to participate in a repair and reconciliation process with UFW, please reach out to the East Los Angeles Women’s Center at the contact information above. They will help you explore options for a supported and facilitated dialogue with the Working IDEAL and East Los Angeles Women’s Center team to let UFW know how you were/are affected, what would help you feel safe and move forward on the path toward healing. This is an opportunity to be heard and share how UFW can take steps toward individual repair and reconciliation. It is also an opportunity for survivors to help guide UFW to the next steps, so UFW can learn from this experience how to better serve its members and la Causa and improve efforts to prevent these harms.
